Make your own hands-free, foot-operated faucet "switch" for an outdoor sink with this PDF specifications package.
IMPORTANT UPDATE 2022— The tap adapter hose fitting that is the key component of this Toe-Tapper Faucet Switch is no longer being sold. Thus, these plans are now obsolete and offered for free.
The Planet Whizbang Toe-Tapper Faucet Switch (pictured above) is a hands-free valve for an outdoor sink.
Sinks are often set up outdoors by people who process (butcher) their own chickens. An outdoor sink (hooked up with a garden hose) can also be handy for washing produce from the garden before bringing it in the house. Or, if you are into putting up your own food (canning and freezing), you might have a temporary outdoor summer-kitchen (with an outdoor sink) set up under a tent in the back yard. The toe-tapper faucet switch allows you to turn the sink faucet on and off with a tap of the foot. One tap to turn the water on. Another tap to turn it off. All the while, BOTH hands are free to work. This is an incredibly useful device! It is also arthritis-friendly.
Alternately, the Toe-Tapper can be attached vertically in front of the sink at a convenient height so that it can operated by bumping it off and on with your hip or thigh.
The Toe-Tapper was invented by Herrick Kimball in 2014. After two years of beta testing by nearly 100 people (and lots of great feedback), these PDF specifications for making the Toe-Tapper are now being made available here.
If you have some basic handyman tools and skills, you should be able to complete this little project without any trouble. The specifications are 8 pages in size. There is a complete materials list and scale drawings of the parts, along with a couple of photos. More photos and basic information can be found by clicking on the word "homepage" in orange at the top right corner of this page. If you go to that link, you will also find a YouTube video showing how the Toe-Tapper works.
